Chiltern Sinfonietta Winter Concert: Mozart, Moeran and Schubert
Free Admission
A bright winter programme that travels from the opera house to the English countryside and on to Vienna, ending with Schubert at his most high-spirited.
Overview
Join the Chiltern Sinfonietta in Victoria Hall, Tring for our first concert of 2027. It is a programme of contrasts: the dark theatrical drama of Mozart, a warm and rarely heard piece of English orchestral writing from E J Moeran, and the extraordinary energy of a symphony Schubert wrote before he was twenty.
The programme
- MozartOverture to Don GiovanniTwo hammer-blow chords, and one of opera’s greatest stories is underway. A short, thrilling curtain-raiser.
- E J MoeranSinfoniettaWritten in wartime and full of open air and long horizons. Moeran deserves to be heard far more often than he is.
- SchubertSymphony No 3Youthful, tuneful and irrepressible, with a finale that never sits still.
